BAKERSFIELD, CA. – On Novenber 3, the FELA lawyer<\/a> news blog wrote a story titled BNSF Proposal to Transfer Bakersfield Workers to Barstow Meets Resistance<\/em><\/a>. The story was about the BNSF rail company’s proposal to transfer about 100 Bakersfield employees to the Barstow area.<\/p>\n

Now the BNSF railroad workers and their families say\u00a0 there is another reason to avoid the transfer – contaminated water. Barstow’s water supply county was found to have traces of a toxic chemical that’s used to make rocket fuel and explosives and San Bernadino residents were warned late last week not to drink the tap water. <\/p>\n

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency for the county after the contaminated tap water was found.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, officials lifted drinking water restrictions for about half of Barstow’s residents.<\/p>\n

BNSF’s plan is to move the rail workers and their families from Bakersfield, Los Angeles and Needles to its Barstow operation, however, there’s no definite time on when the transfer will take place.<\/p>\n
