The victim was traveling westbound in a pickup truck fitted with wheels for railroad tracks when it was struck at the rail crossing by a passenger car traveling southbound on Jeep Rd.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->The Kansas Highway Patrol accident report said Hulse died after being taken to Abilene Hospital. The report said he was driving a 2006 Chevrolet truck and wasn\u2019t wearing a seat belt.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3388\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3388\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3388\" title=\"abilene-ks-union-pacific-train-accident-map\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gordon-elias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/abilene-ks-union-pacific-train-accident-map.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gordon-elias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/abilene-ks-union-pacific-train-accident-map.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.gordon-elias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/abilene-ks-union-pacific-train-accident-map-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3388\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Map showing location of fatal collision involving pickup truck and passenger car on the tracks at the Jeep Rd rail crossing just south of Old U.S. 40 in Abilene, KS on August 28, 2011.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Capital Journal reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mark Davis, a regional media director for Union Pacific, said the employee was westbound around 4 p.m. Sunday in a pickup fitted with wheels for the track when the truck collided with a southbound vehicle on Jeep Road.<\/p>\n<p>The arms are supposed to come down when such trucks are used on the tracks, Davis said.<\/p>\n<p>KHP road trooper Marshall Hageman said \u201cit was just an unfortunate accident\u201d and no citations were issued based on the evidence. The investigation will focus on whether the cross arms were functioning, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Davis said he didn\u2019t know why the arms didn\u2019t go down.<\/p>\n<p>The accident report said Jean Aker, 52, was driving the 1995 Ford passenger car that struck Hulse.
