JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A railroad worker who fell from a Jacksonville train trestle below the Acosta Bridge Tuesday, Feb.14, was identified as Peter Jerome Michnick a 42-year-old boom truck operator from Michigan, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Michnick, who was employed by Osmose Railroad Services, was doing bridge repairs when he apparently fell hitting his head on a girder and plummeted into the water. Two of his co-workers jumped in to attempt a rescue, but Michnick had already been swept away, according to Lt. Mike Eason from the Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

A boater picked him up and brought him to a nearby dock where he was taken to Shands Jacksonville Hospital as a trauma alert. It happened about 2:45 p.m. beside The Florida Times-Union and involved about a 12-foot fall.<\/p>\n

Michnick was pronounced dead at Shands Jacksonville Hospital.<\/p>\n

The incident remains under investigation at this time.<\/p>\n
