ABBEVILLE COUNTY, S.C. – A CSX train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed Thursday morning in Abbeville, South Carolina.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred when more than two dozen CSX train cars derailed around 5 a.m. at Redd and Hagler Streets, near Long Branch Street. Homes in the vicinity had to be evacuated while crews worked on the scene to clean up the spill.<\/p>\n

Six streets near the derailment remain closed off until officials can clear the wreckage and contain the spill.<\/p>\n

7 On Your Side<\/a> reports that one of the derailed cars is leaking propanediol, a chemical used to make antifreeze for recreational vehicles.<\/p>\n

The evacuation has since been lifted for most and residents have been allowed to return to their homes, but are asked to stay indoors until further notice.\u00a0 The only residents not allowed back in include Redd and McBride streets, and Shop Hill Drive.<\/p>\n

They are being put up at a Greenwood hotel.<\/p>\n

Officials say no one was hurt and there is no health risk because of the spill.\u00a0 It\u2019s unsure how much of the chemical has leaked, but the spill is partially sealed at this time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
