Union Pacific has been ordered by the U.S. Labor Department to pay an employee $24,823 for forcing him to continue working while sick.<\/p>\n

\"\"According to reports, the employee, who worked as an engineer for Union Pacific, was traveling between Green River, Wyo., and his home base of Pocatello, Idaho at the time of the incident. It was then that he told UP officials that he was too sick to continue working safely, but the UP officials intimidated him and persuaded him not to seek medical attention.<\/p>\n

Railroad officials did not immediately respond Thursday to messages about the order.<\/p>\n

The Department of Labor is also requiring Union Pacific to train its employees on whistleblower protections for railroad employees and give every Pocatello-based employee a fact sheet on those rules.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
