FORT WAYNE, IN. — A Norfolk Southern train traveling from Chicago to Harrisburg, Pa.,\u00a0 derailed when two locomotives hauling 43 cars, slipped off the tracks in Fort Wayne, IN.<\/p>\n

Thirty seven Norfolk Southern rail cars derailed in Fort Wayne, IN on September 8, 2012 causing traffic to come to a standstill for several hours.<\/p><\/div>\n

The accident occurred on Saturday morning, September 8, at about about 7 a.m. near South Anthony Boulevard and Hayden Street in the south end of town in Fort Wayne, Indiana. According to Norfolk Southern spokesman, Dave Pidgeon, 37 of the railroad cars actually derailed, but all 43 cars were damaged.<\/p>\n

Pidgeon told the media there were no hazardous spills and no injuries were reported at the time of the accident.<\/p>\n

The derailment shut down Norfolk Southern’s mainline until 2:30 p.m., Pidgeon said.<\/p>\n

The incident remains under investigation at this time.<\/p>\n
