RUSHVILLE, IN – A pickup truck collided with a CSX train, seriously injuring two motorists in Rushville, IN on August 16, 2013. Rushville is located in Rush County in the east-central part of the state about 45 miles southeast of Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

The accident happened around 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2013 when a pickup truck traveling north on Perkins St ignored the flashing lights at the 4th St rail crossing and proceeded to cross the tracks and was struck by a westbound CSX train.<\/p>\n

Both the driver and a passenger of the pickup truck were seriously injured. The driver was identified as 26 year-old Thomas Alexander and a passenger, 19 year-old Anthony Huffman, both from Rushville.<\/p>\n

The pickup truck was hit on the passenger side and went airborne, bouncing off a house and a fence on East 4th St, landing about 150 feet from the point of impact.<\/p>\n

Rescue workers had to work for about a half an hour to extricate Huffman. Both Alexander and Huffman were seriously injured and had to be airlifted to Rush Memorial Hospital, about a mile away.<\/p>\n

Both were reported to be in critical condition and investigators were unable to obtain a statement from them.<\/p>\n

There were no reports of any injuries to any personnel on the train or any railroad employees.<\/p>\n

The accident is currently under investigation.<\/p>\n
