Author: HARRISBURG, PA – The driver of a passenger car was sent to the hospital after an accident with a Norfolk Southern freight train in Harrisburg, PA on Thursday, January 27, 2011.

Harrisburg is in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in the central part of the state about 206 miles southeast of Pittsburgh and about 105 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
Police in Harrisburg say that the driver of the car drove onto the railroad tracks and his vehicle was struck by trains passing in opposite directions. The accident happened about 2:45 a.m. Thursday morning.
After a collision with an oncoming westbound train, the car was shoved into the path of oncoming eastbound train. The accident happened near 13th and Paxton Streets in Harrisburg.

The driver of the car, whose name has not yet been released and whose condition is not yet known, was removed from his car by rescue crews and the then transported to Hershey Medical Center.
No injuries to any railroad workers were reported.
