NORMANDY, IL — A  Union pacific trail carrying grain to Texas derailed shortly after 8 a.m on Friday, May 6, about one mile south of Normandy in northwestern Bureau County spilling corn into an adjacent field.

Early reports from Bureau County Sheriff’s Department indicated seven cars had derailed, but Union Pacific Northern Region media director Mark Davis later confirmed 31 cars had derailed. ... Read More

ROODHOUSE, IL – Eight rail cars of a Kansas City Southern Railway train occurred about 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, November 16, when the eastbound train being pulled by four engines slowed to make the curve onto southbound tracks at the Roodhouse Rail Yard. Eight empty grain cars behind the engines derailed to the west of the tracks that run parallel to U.S. Route 67 through Roodhouse.

WAYNE CITY IL – A mail carrier was killed when his vehicle collided with a Canadian National freight train in Farrington Township in Jefferson County, Illinois on Tuesday, July 27, 2010. ROCK ISLAND COUNTY, IL – Andrew Schulte, a former Iowa Interstate Railroad train employee, was awarded $33 million in damages by a Rock Island County jury last Thursday for a tragic accident that occurred in a Rock Island rail yard in April 2007.

According to the lawsuit, Schulte was trying to pull a pin on a rail car while walking alongside a train on a switching lead. The lawsuit states that the pin lifter stuck, causing Schulte to trip and fall, at which point he was struck and run over by a rail car.
