ROCK CREEK, MT – On Tuesday afternoon at around 2 p.m. seventeen BNSF railroad cars derailed off of the western portion of Montana’s Hi-Line on Tuesday afternoon, just south of the Flathead Tunnel.

The train, which was headed from Moore, Montana to Kalama, Washington, was carrying over 100 cars of wheat when it derailed in Rock Creek, around 2 pm. Rock Creek is about 52 west of White Fish, MT.

9KXLH.com reports:

BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas says four of the cars have been moved upright, but that the rest remain in an “accordion” position.

Melonas says there were no injuries and it is also unknown at this time what caused the derailment or how much wheat was spilled.

Several trains will be re-routed via the Montana Rail Link, but the incident is expected to cause a 24-hour delay.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
